    Bodh Gaya and Location of Bodh Gaya
    Bodhgaya, which is situated in Gaya district of Bihar, is one of the most sacred pilgrimage center in the world for Buddhist. This is also the most important sacred place or center for Buddhist in the world.
    Location of Bodh Gaya:
    - 13 km from Gaya, 450 km west of Calcutta, and 90 km south of Patna.
    Here, the Bodhi Tree, under which 'Gautama' attained the nirvana(Enlightenment) and finally become ' Lord Buddha'.

    Gautama Buddha was born in the foothills of the Himalayas as a Sakya prince of Kapilvastu (now in Nepal).

    In Bihar, Buddhism evolved/born as a religion. Gautama Buddha made may contributions to make Buddhism world wide religion. 'Vihara' is a word from which the state's name of 'Bihar' originated which means monasteries which abounded in Bihar.

    The Maurya Emperor Ashoka (234-198 BC) took a great action towards the spread of the original religion after the several centuries of Buddha's passing away.

    A person of devotion should visit Bodh Gaya and which would create an awareness for the nature of impermanence.One should visit Bodh Gaya at least once during one's lifetime.
